“Magic is limited... only the mind is infinite."

The sharp scent of incense filled the small space, as sweat dripped off her nose and onto the rough wooden boards below. The Edges of Infinity began creep and fray at the edges of her consciousness and the core of the flame that she knew as her "Self" flickered and wavered before the torrent of lives and experiences that she saw, heard and felt around her. In that instant she knew both more and less than she had ever done before in her life, and she understood that the "Veil" that surrounded around all life was not a prison imposed by the gods, it was a defense mechanism put in place by all creatures to prevent them from encountering the "Oneness" that lay just beyond. Anyone could peak through the Veil to the realm of pure thought, but only a few could do so and still live, and even fewer still could do so and remain sane.

Pulling her mind back for the eternity that lasted between instants, Elmindreda Shantari felt her breath come in ragged gasps as the veil that was the material realm faded back into view. Opening her shaking hands, the young nomad smiled as the rush of information dropped to the faintest trickle that constituted the normal 5 senses that most people lived breathed and died with.

This was only the beginning.
