Description

Appearance

Randy's attire serves the specific purpose of not drawing attention to himself. Being stealthy can prove difficult when one has facial features as "distinct" as Randy's. Because of this, in order to maintain a low profile, Randy conceals his fiery hair and emerald colored eyes with the hood of his green traveler's cloak at all times. Like any Rogue worth his salt, Randy is able to slip in and out of sight at will. His typically diminutive halfling stature aids greatly in his ability to disappear. His brown leather armor covers basic travelers clothes, all the better for remaining unnoticed. Hidden under his right sleeve is a unique instrument; a wrist blade, a gauntlet with a spring propelled blade attached to the inner part of the forearm. The outer part of the forearm, if exposed, reveals the symbol of an as yet unknown origin, resembling the letter "A". Randy procured this strange weapon from the corpse of a halfling stranger that attempted to assassinate the Goblin crime boss that had hired Randy as a bodyguard/hitman. After the stranger met a violent end thanks to Randy's sharp eye and quick trigger finger with a hand crossbow, the Goblin boss let Randy keep the wrist blade as a payment bonus. If you are close enough to Randy to see this blade, know that he intended for you to see it, and hope that you are a friend and not a target. Also hidden under his shirt, around his neck, is the Stars of the Faithful taken from the final victim of his life of crime. Randy wears the Stars as both a symbol of his faith, and a reminder never to return to the darkness from which he escaped.

Personality

Randy, while fully capable of keeping a low profile and being dead silent when necessary, enjoys a good conversation with traveling companions when he chooses to be seen and heard. He also has a bit of a mischievous streak, using his abilities to play innocent pranks on those he calls friends. Randy's voice is charmingly affected by the easily recognizable accent of the local townsfolk and dock workers of Tilith Serryl (this accent is eerily similar to the affectation heard in the region in our world known as "Boston, Massachusetts"). A closet adrenaline junkie, Randy enjoys pretty much anything that involves climbing, falling, sneaking, running, or any combination of the aforementioned. Like most halflings, Randy enjoys a good meal, and has been known to do some culinary experimentation from time to time. Another one of the halfling's hobbies is studying languages. Fluent in four different languages (So far), Randy loves studying the grammar, etymology, and variance in languages of all sorts. He is a faithful follower of Lylweneth, prays at least once a day, and makes sure to visit a local Temple of Light whenever the opportunity arises. A witness to, and recipient of, many unfortunate acts of mistreatment and injustice based solely on race, Randy despises any sort of racial discrimination, and will act irrationally upon witnessing perceived acts of prejudice. Ironically, Randy will occasionally let slip certain words by accident that reveal slight racial prejudices of his own. When not around those he is familiar with, (again, if he chooses to be seen at all) Randy appears deep in thought; lost in his memories of his past life, his regrets over past sins, and his need to make amends with the elf that is his best friend and the only real family he has ever known.

Biography

Background

Randy the pious rogue was once simply Randy, the orphaned halfling. He grew up in an orphanage in Tilith Serryl, run by the Brothers of the Temple of Light. In that orphanage he had a friend, an elf and fellow orphan named Arietor (which Randy shortened to Ari). Randy and Ari would always have adventures in the orphanage, pestering the Brothers of Light and causing general mischief. The two were the only family each other had, and were going to be friends forever, or so they thought. Years later, when Randy was 18, he was searching for his Stars of the Faithful in the room he shared with Ari. He checked under the pillow of Ari’s bed and found a letter of acceptance to the Light Temple Academy located in the capital. Ari was going to leave to become a brother of light in a week. The two of them had talked about going to the capital together one day, and visiting the Temple of Light there. It was Randy’s dream to study linguistics at the Temple Academy. They had even put their applications in on the same day! Randy assumed since Ari did not show him the letter, that Randy had not been accepted, and that Ari was planning on leaving without him. Feeling betrayed, but also not wanting to interfere with his friend’s dream, Randy decided that the best thing to do would be to leave the orphanage that night. So leave he did.
